Trees cannot absorb Ammonia for nitrates. Trees can absorb it only when it is changed in to nitrates. Trees can use sulphur in the form of sulphate and phosphorus in the form of phosphate. This is done by micro organisms. In other words the oxygen brought to soil by micro organisms. By using pesticides and insecticides the micro organisms are being killed. Then new microbes are created which can live without air. They turn nitrates into ammonia, sulphates into sulphur and so on. Thus the growth of plant is affected and men return to use chemical fertilizers again. |

Termites, earthworms and microbes play an important role in sustainable agriculture. For this, patience is needed. It is not advisable to start agriculture after taking loans from banks and expecting profit in two or three years. By using chemical fertilizers and non scientific methods of agriculture there will be a loss of 30 lakhs of rupees from an acre. We will see how it is. In a good fertile land there will be nearly 20 lakhs of earth worms in one acre. It will be very less, in lands where chemical fertilizers are using. If we calculate the market value of one earthworm as 50paise, we will loose nearly 8 lakhs of rupees by using chemical fertilizers in an acre. In one acre of fertile land there will be nearly 20 tonnes of microbes. There will be very few where we are using chemical fertilizers. We don’t have to use any chemical fertilizers if there are good microbes, earthworms and bio degradable organic matters in the soil. |
